The standard related to sunglasses, EN 1836:2005 Personal Eye Protection - General Sunglasses and Sunglasses Filter, was adopted by two standards on September 30, 2013:
EN ISO 12311:2013 Personal Protective Devices - Testing Sunglasses and Related Devices;
EN ISO 12312-1:2013 Eye and face protection - Sunglasses and related goggles - Part 1: Commonly used sunglasses replaces.
In addition, NB EN ISO 12312-2 is being developed.
Compared with EN 1836:2005, the new standard does not change the manufacturer's responsibilities, such as maintaining technical documents; Traceability; Indicate their health and safety requirements; Attach CE mark, etc. Unlike other personal protective equipment (PPE), sunglasses, as PPE 1 products, do not need to involve the EU Notified Body.
There are some technical updates in the new standard, such as:
The classification of sunglasses is as follows:
L Mild colors belong to category 0~1;
L General sunglasses are classified into 2~3 categories;
L Very dark sunglasses fall into category 4.
In addition, for the minimum robustness of the filter, the tests of frame deformation and filter persistence are added, including:
Impact resistance of filter;
L Durability of sunglasses;
L Resistance to perspiration;
L Wear resistance.
