Requirements and Updates of Household Appliances ERP (EU) No 1275/2008

On December 18, 2008, the European Union issued the Implementation Regulation on Ecological Design Requirements for Home Appliances and Office Equipment - (EU) No 1275/2008 in its official gazette.

(EU) No 1275/2008 is an implementation measure for household appliances and office equipment under the ErP Directive (2009/125/EC), which specifies the power consumption requirements for household appliances and office equipment in standby and shutdown modes.

Applicable products:

Household appliances: washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, electric ovens, electric baking pans, microwave ovens, fryers, grinders, coffee makers, equipment for opening or sealing containers or packages, electric knives, other appliances for cooking and handling food, appliances for cleaning and maintaining clothes, hair clippers, hair dryers, electric toothbrushes, razors, massage appliances and other body care appliances, electronic scales, etc.

Update required:

On August 23, 2013, the European Union published in its official gazette the updated requirements of the implementing regulations on ecological design requirements for household appliances and office equipment - (EU) No 801/2013. The updated requirements came into effect on September 12, 2013.

Updated content (excluding network devices):

1. Except for network equipment, power management requirements for all products:

All products (except where not applicable) shall provide power management functions or similar functions. When the product does not provide its main functions, the power management function should shut down the product (within the shortest possible time for the application purpose of the product) and automatically enter the following modes:

- Standby mode, or

- Shutdown mode, or

- Other conditions, the power consumption of this condition (when the product is connected to the main power supply) does not exceed the power consumption requirements applicable to power off and/or standby.

The power management function shall be activated.

2. From January 1, 2015:

For the coffee machine, the delay time for the product to automatically enter the power management mode is as follows:

- Drip type coffee machine with insulated cup, 5 minutes at most after the completion of the final brewing cycle; Or 30 minutes after completing the rust removal or automatic cleaning process;

- For drip coffee machine without insulated cup, the maximum time is 40 minutes after completing the final brewing cycle; Or 30 minutes after completing the rust removal or automatic cleaning process;

- For domestic coffee machines other than drip coffee machines, the maximum time is 30 minutes after the completion of the final brewing cycle; Or 30 minutes after the heating element is activated; Or 60 minutes after the cup preheating function is activated; Or 30 minutes after completing the rust removal or automatic cleaning process; Unless an alarm is triggered, users are required to intervene to prevent possible dangers and accidents.

As of the above date (January 1, 2015), the requirements of power management are not applicable.
