The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) issued the A2:2013 amendment on toy sound requirements according to the toy standard EN71-1:2011.

Amendment A2 according to EU toy standard EN 71-1 (physical and mechanical requirements) was issued by CEN in September. The old standard will be extended to September 2014. A2 The amendments to the sound requirements have not been harmonized. A standard or amendment can become a harmonized standard only after it is published in the Official Journal of the European Union. Only harmonized standards can be used to prove compliance with EU Toy Directive 2009/48/EC. Amendment A2 is the first amendment issued in accordance with EN71-1:2011. Amendment A1 is still under revision. The revised sound requirements include new categories of toys to be tested. Other changes include taking into account different exposure times. At the same time, the test method is revised and specified. The new toy category includes toys that determine the sound level according to children's actions:

● The percussion instrument toy is designed to make sound by beating with a beater (such as a drumstick or hand). (e.g. drum, xylophone, tambourine, etc.)

● Voice toy is designed to produce sound through electronic amplification or distortion of voice. The size of the toy sound output depends on the size of the input voice. (e.g. telephone, intercom, etc.)

● Blowing toys are designed for children or other people to blow to make sound. (e.g. toy horn, toy whistle, etc.)

● The shooting toy is designed to open the powder cap to make a sound. (e.g. toy guns with powder caps). This is to take into account that the length of time that different toys emit sounds can vary greatly.

The three exposure categories are:

1. Sound exposure longer than 30 seconds

2. The sound exposure length is between 5 seconds and 30 seconds

3. The sound exposure length is less than 5 seconds. The sound limit has been set separately according to the category of each product and the length of sound exposure time. (Please indicate the source for reprinting)
