On July 19, 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officially released the national standard GB 4943.1-2022, namely Audio/Video, Information and Communication Technology Equipment Part 1: Security Requirements. The new national standard will be fully implemented on August 1, 2023, replacing GB 4943.1-2011 and GB 8898-2011.

The release and implementation of the new standard has three important meanings:

First, it is conducive to the implementation of standards by electronic product manufacturers. The scope of application of the previous two standards is different, leading to confusion in the selection of standards for the production and design of electronic products in many enterprises. After the merger of the new version of the national standard, the problem of difficult definition of the previous applicable standards has been solved, and the "one ruler" of product production, testing and spot check has been realized, which has reduced the burden on enterprises and improved the market operation efficiency.

Second, it is conducive to ensuring the health and safety of consumers. The new version of the national standard thoroughly combs, supplements and improves the core contents of the original two standards, and puts forward specific safety requirements and test methods for the new hidden dangers of current products such as wireless charging, Bluetooth headset and other new technologies according to the concept of classification of hazard sources, so as to protect personal and property safety from electric shock, fire, overheating, acoustic and optical radiation and other aspects.

Third, it is conducive to promoting the export trade of China's electronic products. The international standard IEC 62368-1 is adopted for the revision of the new standard, and the main technical contents are consistent with the international standards. Enterprises that produce electronic products according to the new national standards can meet the requirements of the international security assessment system, eliminate technical barriers to international trade, and help China's electronic products "go global"

A 12 month transition period has been set between the release and implementation of the new version of the standard. As the standard basis for China's CCC mandatory product certification, the certification version change work is about to start.
